Teaching Geography from an African-Centered Perspective

with Nana Afia Nson Bonsu

This workshop will focus on geography beginning with the theory of Pangea. It’s a workshop for parents and children between the ages of 4 and 15. Parents will be guided through an introduction and the significance of political, physical and thematic maps as they relate to socio political history, names of places in the world, languages and ethnic groups. 


Nana Afia was born in Trenton, NJ, lived in Washington DC and Maryland for over 40 yrs., and currently resides in Georgia. Mama Afia taught in independent African centered schools for a combined 47 years beginning at the Chad School in Newark, NJ. She is the founder of Taratibu Pan African drill team and the founder, director, and instructor of the Rhythm-n-Flow Academy. She is the Akomfohema of Nyame Dua Abusua, artist, designer, and seamstress. She has four children, four grandchildren. currently residing in Georgia.
