Mother-Spirit-Nation: The Centrality of Mothering in African Liberation Movements

This presentation is an exploration of African concepts of "mother," and the ways in which mothering plays a role in guiding the intertwined spiritual, militaristic, and political strategies of African people under slavery and colonization. The objective is to encourage community members and organizations interested in African liberation to consider the ways in which the intentional infusion of the ethics and practices of mothering--also known as mothernity--might strengthen their efforts.

Presenter – Dr. Iyelli Ichile, Professor of African Studies
