Ubuntu” is not just a word; it’s a deeply ingrained philosophy that shapes communities, cultures, and individual lives The word “ubuntu” is from the southern African (Bantu) languages and literally means “humanness.” "Ubuntu" is sometimes translated as "I am because we are" (also "I am because you are"), or "humanity towards others "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects us". Ubuntu as a philosophy is based on generic life values of justice, responsibility, equality, collectiveness, relatedness, reciprocity, love, respect, helpfulness, community, caring, dependability, sharing, trust, integrity, unselfishness, and social change. Dr. Washington’s work and recent book focus on the Ubuntu philosophy as a framework for healing cultural and historical trauma for persons of Afrikan ancestry who have been impacted by Persistent Enslavement Systemic Trauma (PEST). As the founder of Ubuntu Psychotherapy (Psychology)Dr. Washington advances a culturally sensitive modality for mental health counseling and psychotherapy to be utilized by psychotherapists in a culturally inclusive manner.

He is the founder and CEO of Roots Afrika, founding board member and Acting President of the World Mental Health Coalition, and CEO and Founder of Nyansapo Empowerment Consultant, a mental health private practice with offices in the US and The Gambia West Afrika.
