Kicking-Off the Summer 2019 Historical and Cultural Literacy Series:

"Afro-Europeans"

Black Europe’s vast presence and visibly invisible recognition

With an estimated population of 15-20 million from Sweden to Spain and Iceland to Ukraine, Afro-Europeans have held a centuries-old, vastly prominent, yet little acknowledged presence in European society.

We will examine the dispersion of the African Diaspora in Europe, local contexts of African Internationalism, the prevalence of Afrophobia, and the recent wave of Black elected officials in European Parliament down to city municipalities who are building Black solidarity within and across national borders.
