A few weeks have passed since Cyclone Idai ravaged the Southern African Republics of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. What makes this situation both tragic and pressing is not merely because of the loss of countless lives, the crippling of social infrastructure, and the displacement of at least 1 million people, but the fact that the Southern Region of Africa is only three years removed from a drought courtesy of El Nino.

We are calling for a month of fundraisers and benefits throughout the United States of America, other parts of the Americas, the rest of the Western Hemisphere and Western Europe, to benefit the people of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe affected by Cyclone Idai in partnership with the Southern African Development Community (the region’s diplomatic body), the governments and grass roots efforts on the ground. The theme is "A Month of Unity, Solidarity and Good Will with the peoples of Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi," beginning April 25, carrying into African Liberation Day Weekend on May 25, 2019.

The launching event will be at Union Temple Baptist Church, (1225 7W Street S.E. Washington, DC), Tuesday April 23 at 6:30pm, where we will be joined by H.E. Ambassador Carlos Dos Santos, Mozambique’s Ambassador to the US; H.E. Ambassador Edward Sawerengera, Malawi’s Ambassador to the US; H.E. Ambassador Ammon. M. Mutembwa, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the US and H.E. Ambassador Monica Nashandi on Namibia’s Ambassador to the US.

All funds raised will be used to fund volunteers on the ground in the affected areas, engaged in recovery work, including:

National Council of Volunteers (CNV) of Mozambique (Osvaldo Mauaie, President), a large national volunteer network in Mozambique: Engaged in cleaning up affected places, delivering food at accommodation centers for displace people, unloading products on ships arriving with donations, etc.

Aka Power International in Mozambique (Newton Matienga, National Spokesperson), a Civil Society Organization working at the district and provincial level: Supplying tents and food to people in areas who have lost their homes and crops destroyed before harvest.

Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum (CSCJF) (Abigale Mupanmbi, President & Innocent Netanyahu, Spokesperson) in Zimbabwe: Clearing of debris, as well as temporary housing and psycho social support to affected communities in eastern Zimbabwe, including people displaced from Mozambique and Malawi.

We also look forward to engaging in a level of selfless collaboration with organized formations, institutional frameworks and key individuals who understand the immeasurable value of Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi in steering Mother Africa towards total stability and self-sufficiency.

Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause, it means so much to the people you help.
