The State of Pan-Africanism in the 21st Century: Dispatches from the African Continent


In recent times, allegiance to Pan Africanism has gained a great deal of traction both on the continent and abroad.Co-Founder of Friends of the Congo, Maurice Carney will share the significance of the increase in Pan African activity for people of African descent in the Americas and the United States in particular. He will report on the recent Kwame Nkrumah Pan African Intellectual and Cultural Festival that took place in Accra, Ghana as well as the Pan African Conferences in Tunisia, Tanzania, Senegal and South Africa in which members of his organization participated.

In addition to looking at recent Pan African developments, the call made by Kenyan writer and intellectual Ngugi wa Thiong'o to all Africans to secure the base and defend the motherland will be discussed.

Concrete recommendations will be made as to how Africans in the US can be a part of defending the motherland and advancing Pan Africanism at home and abroad.
